Apostille

The Apostille is a simplified method of document legalization used to verify their authenticity for presentation abroad. It consists of a stamp or sheet attached to the original document, or a verifiable digital certificate."

How to request an apostille for documents issued in Argentina?

The apostille request procedure is strictly personal; intermediaries or agents are not accepted.

There are three ways to request the apostille of a document signed in Argentina:

  1. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship.
  2. Through the Notary Public Colleges.
  3. Through this Consulate General.

1. Apostille request before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship.

The procedure is entirely online and requires an AFIP fiscal key. Documents eligible for apostille include public documents issued by Argentine authorities or organizations in electronic or paper format, which must be attached in PDF format and signed digitally or in handwriting. For more information, please visit the following link.

2. Apostille request before the Notary Public Colleges

Am agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship and the Federal Council of Argentine Notaries Public to allow the Notary Public Colleges of Argentina to affix the apostille, without the need for the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. It is recommended to contact the Notary Public Colleges to learn about the requirements of the procedures in each case. On the CFNA website, www.cfna.org.ar/colegios, you can find the contact information for each College.

3. Apostille request at this Consulate General

Under this modality, only documents with digital signatures and a verifiable signature panel are eligible for apostille. If the document has a handwritten signature, it must be legalized beforehand by the Ministry of the Interior (the procedure is free and online).

The apostille issued by Argentina is a digital document (PDF) with a digital signature that contains the apostilled document "embedded" within it. The apostilled document can be verified at the following link.

To request the apostille of a document, please follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete an apostille request form for each document.
  2. Send the PDF file of the document with a digital signature along with the scanned form by email to consular_ctoro@cancilleria.gob.ar
  3. Once it is verified that the document is eligible for apostille, you will receive an email with a link to make the payment with a credit or debit card.
  4. After the payment is confirmed, the document will be apostilled.
  5. You will receive the apostilled document by email within 5 business days.

Apostille in Canada

As of January 11, 2024, the Apostille Convention for Canada has entered into force. From that date onwards, the service of legalizations by Argentine Consulates in Canada is discontinued for the vast majority of documents.

The only documents eligible for legalization by Consulates in Canada are those that fall outside the scope of the Apostille Convention, meaning administrative documents directly related to a commercial or customs operation.

For more information, please visit our section on Legalizations.
